Main criteria for obtaining a permanent residence permit in Georgia
A Georgian permanent residence permit is a status that allows a foreigner to live in the country indefinitely, enjoy almost all the rights of citizens (except for participation in elections and ownership of agricultural land), as well as to apply for citizenship in the future.

Who can get Georgian residence permit:

1. After 10 years of residence
  • If you have:
  • Legally and continuously resided in Georgia with a temporary residence permit for at least 10 years,
  • Have not been abroad for more than 90 days per year,
  • Have income or property in Georgia,
  • Know Georgian language at least on a basic level,
  • → you can apply for Georgian residence permit according to the general procedure.

2. Investors
  • If you:
  • Invest at least $300,000 in a business or real estate in Georgia,
  • Hold this investment and confirm the annual turnover of the business (from $50,000 in the first year to $120,000 in the following years),
  • → after 5 years you can apply for permanent residence.

3. Family members of Georgian citizens
  • If you are:
  • Married to a Georgian citizen,
  • Or parent/child of a Georgian citizen,
  • → you can get a residence permit earlier, but you also need to prove residence and stable situation (income, housing, etc.).

4. Repatriates and stateless persons
  • Persons deported in the 1940s (Meskhetian Turks) and their descendants,
  • Or persons who previously had Georgian citizenship,
  • → can obtain a residence permit or citizenship under a simplified procedure.

What is granted with a permanent residence permit:
  • Right of permanent residence
  • Right to work without a permit
  • Possibility to open a business and buy real estate (except agricultural land)
  • Education, medicine, banking services
  • Path to citizenship after 5 years of residence with a permanent residence permit.

  • Transnational passport + translation into Georgian
  • Documents on legal stay
  • Documents proving income or property
  • Photo 3×4
  • Bank account statement - Documents on language skills (if needed) - Receipt of payment
  • Applying at the House of Justice (can be online with ID-card).
